Oh Dear :(

Hi Guys. 
My poor leeks are looking limp :( the past few days have been so windy i'm not sure if they are going to survive! Does anyone know if you can stake leeks to give them a bit of stability?
and I've just noticed that bit of concrete about to fall down, i'll fix it in a minute.
It's really the one thing i'm not happy about living here, such high winds and unpredictable weather.
I'm starting to doubt my plans to have a fully working veg garden :(
Sigh.
Sorry to sound so miserable. I'm normally a cheerful and optimistic person, but this is starting to get to me
Nothing much exiting to report, apart from i'm still working on my second sock, and i made some rather pretty watercolour cushions.

    Love your watercolor cushions <3 Hope your leeks bounce back. Sometimes they do but I don't think staking will help. Don't feel bad because we planted 2 kinds of large sweet onions and 1 of the kinds turned out not to be large onions at all but little old hard things that you can't eat at all :( Hang in there and you will be a wonderful gardener :) <3

      Thank you my love <3 i hope so too, i plan on eating a lot of leek and potato soup this winter, and these are vital to the plan haha sad that your onions didn't turn out as planned though :( xx you always make me feel better :) xx

    with your leeks did you make a hole pop them in and water in to fill the hole rather than just plant them.

      no, just plonked them in, i didn't dare just leave them "untethered" or they would have taken off at the first gust xx

    I always use an old broken/ cut down spade handle to make dibber holes to drop my leeks in. Then I fill the holes with water and soil drops around the leeks with out having to fill the holes up with soil. You get good wide socks on your leeks this way.

      I never thought of that Dave :( As i mentioned to Dawn, i didn't dare leave them untethered or they'd have flown away with the first gust of wind! The image of leeks flying around the village has made me giggle though, and has cheered me up immensely!

    Your leeks will be fine, make sure you water them well when it is windy too, it will help anchor them. x

    if the soil feels dry when you poke your finger in they need water :-)

    Perhaps a little more soil will help and I would also trim the plants by about 2 to 3 inches with some scissors.

    hey there thanks for your comment on my blog. in really windy areas it is probably better to have a hedge. We are doing that at the front of our house. Hence I have so many cuttings. find out what would be ok in your area what height you want it to be and then see if there are any of those bushes or trees in the area and then you can take cuttings and grow them on. FREE! Obviously ask before you take them most people are happy to let you take cuttings.

      Hmmm, i never thought of a hedge, problem is, in this village, there are very little hedges, so i'll have to do a wee bit of research to see if they are allowed. They would take care of the nosy neighbour problem though, so that is a bonus :D and the fact that half of the back fence is falling down due to high winds, so a hedge would be a bit hardier and less likely to take off in a breeze haha :) Thank you Sol :) xx

    The cushions look great! Don't let it get you down - there will always be failures as well as successes. I have printed out the following quote for the front of my homestead management planner to keep me motivated. 'Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you have imagined'. I am trying to do this - hard with no support, but I'll get there!

Drama!

Hi guys, sorry i haven't been around much this week, i've been a very bad blogging neighbour, but i will try and get around everyone's blogs this evening (This is my new mantra) What a bloody week! First, i was awoken by the Bearded Wonder in the early hours on Sunday morning having chest pains and violently shivering, my poor hubby has a heart murmur, so this was doubly worrying, though i distinctly remember saying "what do you expect me to do about it?" thinking he was just cold (i'm not a great thinker when i've just woken up lol) then grumpily told him to go make me a cup of tea to get his circulation going , then i sort of got my act together, 999 was called and i was instructed to give him 4 aspirin and wait for the ambulance to turn up. They came and checked him over and hooked him up to the heart monitor thingy whilst i rushed about like a headless chicken packing a bag, fully expecting to go to hospital, only to be told

Round Up

Hi guys, Happy New Year :D Would you believe it'll be a year in late Feb since we moved here, where did that go? And what a year! I've made so many new friends, in real life and through blogging, and i was kept busier than i ever expected to be. For which i am eternally grateful. When i first started this blog i had a list of things that i wanted to learn and do throughout the year Some of them i have done, but a lot seem to have fallen by the wayside, so i am going to keep the list and add to it for this year The Old List Crafts and Home Master the knitting machine- nope, but in my defense i need 4ply yarn which i am still looking for a bargain on.
