It's The Final Countdown!

Hi guys :)  Are you almost ready for Christmas?  Only five days left to go, and i can't wait  I adore Christmas, and i am always very laid back about the whole thing, i just don't see the point in stressing about it, but that's just me :) To be honest, we didn't even plan what we were going to eat until we finally went out shopping on Friday, we didn't buy a full turkey this year, as it's just the two of us, so we got a nice fat turkey leg and thigh joint for only £4.12, which will do us nicely and still make a few more meals out of it. I got one present early, a bread slicing guide, found in a charity shop and bought for the princely sum of £2 :D It's a bit of a funny present, for most people, but i really wanted it, as i'm terrible at slicing my home made bread and end up with a lot of half slices and crumbs  I've asked for a dehydrator for my birthday in January haha :)  I've been baking some doggy biscuits for the...

Every Time A Bell Rings, An Angel Gets His Wings

Hi guys! :) God, isn't this weather terrible? I planned on going to find some pine cones and twiggy things to decorate the Christmas tree, but it's just too miserable to go anywhere unless necessary :/  One day this week i will be going to find some, whatever the weather! I've been busy making decorations to sell at the Coffee Morning next Thursday, i promise i shall put more details in a post next week  I've been making quite a few of these little angels, also to sell I've also crocheted some little Christmas puddings , but the photo has disappeared. I spent a very pleasant hour organizing the pantry/bookshelf and popped everything in jars that i had saved just for this :) i love re-using things :) and it all looks nice and neat and tidy (though it probably won't last!) I've also got some apple cider vinegar on the go, it smells delicious! I love it as it's a great natural cleaner We also finally got the fence ...

And Breathe...

Hi Guys :) Thank you all for your kind words and advice after my... meltdown  minor setback, last week, it was very much appreciated. I have trimmed down the leeks to stabilize them, and am looking into setting in a hedge at the back of the house. I went to the local textiles group this afternoon, for a break, and i found this on my table when i came home. He bought it to cheer me up after my meltdown minor setback Ain't he sweet :')  I've been busy sorting out what used to be the pantry. Remember the lovely pantry? Well... (another sodding thing wrong with the house,  to add the list!!) it turns out that cupboard is too cold to store food and had started to grow mold on the shelves and warp the wood. So, all of the food has been moved back in to the tiny kitchen, and i have turned it into a coat room instead Bags on one side, hats in the middle  our most used summer coats and hats on the other   and my most used shoes in the bas...

Yarn Along, Progress and T-minus 3 days to Woolfest!

Hi guys :)  This week i am finally remembering to join in with the Yarn Along! So, this is my progress so far! I gave up on the mock cable thing, it was too complicated to remember to do along with everything else! Maybe next time.  The bottom part is where i practiced just a knit stitch, then i mastered stockinette stitch and added a new colour. Yay!  This week i am reading Whispers In The Sand by Barbara Erskine Synopsis; "Past and present collide in richly mysterious Egypt, where recently divorced Anna Coburn is retracing a journey her great grandmother Louisa made in the 19th century. Cruising down the Nile from Luxor to the Valley of the Kings, Anna carries with her two mementos: an ancient Egyptian scent bottle, and the diary of that original Nile voyage, which has lain unread for a hundred years. As she follows Louisa's footsteps, Anna discovers both the chilling secret of the bottle and the terrifying specters that pursued her great grandmo...

Phew! Responding to Kev's challenge

Hi guys :) Sorry i haven't been around to do updates, my uncle John visited from Thursday to today so we've been out and about. We went on a lovely walk and to the nearest town to get supplies. I ended up dragging a spade around. I also got lots of potting soil and some peat seed trays.  The carrots have finally decided to sprout! Woohoo!  Hopefully i shall have more things ready to grow next week as i am awaiting a seed delivery, when it decides to show up! The Bearded Wonder looking moody ;) Uncle John being silly What a view!!! We have started work on unearthing the path through the middle of the garden. See the fence in the background? It got blown over in the wind! and now it looks like the other half of the fence is trying to do the same :( I couldn't resist this from Poundland to hang in the pantry  And finally, i am responding to  Kev's  challenge to post a photo of myself, this one is far away enough to not ...

Progress and An Ode To My Hubby

Hi guys :) What a wonderful day i had yesterday!  It was mine and The Bearded Wonders 5th anniversary of being together, through thick and thin.  5 years! The poor git, having to put up with me :P  You think i'm joking? He has put up with my many and varied hobbies, successes and failures, my disappointment when things go wrong, cheering me on when things go right. My many, many hair colours and styles. My spontaneity, of pancakes at midnight, my wild ideas, our long discussions (read- arguments) My ability to sneak things into the shopping trolley when he isn't looking  (oh, he knows about it, he is just lovely enough to buy it anyway, bless him) All of this and more.  And for which i am eternally grateful. I am grateful for his never ending support, his romantic side (which is better than mine, i am terrible at being romantic) he leaves little notes, writes poems to me, buys a book because he knew i would like it, or a surprise of a DVD in the ...

Lovely Presents and My Favourite "Homestead" (ha!) Tools

Hi Guys :) How is your week going? Mine has been ok, not a chance of getting into the garden until today, when it was nice and sunny, and i ended up being too busy! I got a rather lovely present from The Bearded Wonder... Some shelves for my pantry!  (A glorified broom cupboard)  I panicked for a while as it looked like it wasn't going to fit!  Well.... i made it fit, through sheer force of will i think! ;)  Until it took umbrage at my shoving and flaming slammed down on my big toe! And i was wearing sandals to add insult to injury! Ouch :( And this rather adorable little porcelain egg basket in the shape of a chicken!!  It's our 5 year anniversary tomorrow! Where did that go? I was tidying and organizing my pantry/broom cupboard, so i figured i might as well show you my favourite "homestead" tools Why you'd be interested i have no idea, but i'm telling you anyway ;) It isn't a term i use lightly, homesteading, b...
