Even MORE Garden Updates! Oh..and Woolfest!



Hi guys! 
Yep... more garden updates! Am i boring you yet? haha!
It's just so exciting that we are finally making progress and heading in the right direction :) 


I've finished one side of the fence, and the digging out is getting closer to being finished, we've got about a quarter left then that side is done! All that will be left to do is build the rest of the fence around it and start plotting where we're going to plant the veg, fruits and herbs next year

It's actually rather hard to plan a veg plot, you have to make sure everything has the right conditions, the right soil and the right neighbours, otherwise you're buggered and it will all die on you. 

This afternoon i made an arbor, it doesn't look like much now, but with any luck it will eventually look something like this

I adore roses, and have always wanted a little rose arbor for my very own, and as a bonus i can dry some to make pot pourri and various Rose related things :)





I am also getting better at baking bread (finally!)
The secret? Second rise.

Always let your bread rise twice and it will be the loveliest, softest, fluffiest, best tasting bread you will ever eat!


Though make sure you have the right size loaf tin... otherwise it will creep over the top and look like something from a horror movie!



In other news, i am off to Woolfest again this year , this time i get to stay for two nights!
I am travelling with a friend, who will drive us there, and last year we decided there was just too much to cram in one day, and she got rather tired afterwards (there is, after all, a 50 year gap between us) so we shall go on the Friday and return Sunday after a good nights rest.
I ay have over packed a little, though in my defense the suitcase is smaller than it looks in the picture! It's really quite tiny




I shall end with the obligatory photos of Angus, who has recently discovered that he can climb
 the curtains...

The lightshade got knocked off and while i was waiting for the Bearded Wonder to put it back up (i can't reach) Angus decided it was a great hiding spot!


Giving me the evil eye because i wouldn't let him suck my neck like a tiny furry vampire ;)

    Awww, Angus is so cute. Gardening is addictive, isn't it? It's so exciting, so much promise in a tiny seed and the veggies you'll grow will be tastier than any you've ever bought from a supermarket. Have a great time at Woolfest, I wish I were going.

      He's even cuter when he's asleep ;D
      It's incredibly addictive, especially now i can finally see where everything is going, i just wish the rest of the year would hurry up so i can get started haha :)

      You should try to come next year, it's an amazing experience :) xx

    A fantastic excuse for a weekend away, if any was needed. The garden is looking great. I have no clue about growing and planting, let alone arbors, so am very impressed. Have lots of woolly fun and take plenty of pictures. X

      Absolutely ;) we so rarely get to go anywhere, though i do feel a bit guilty as the Bearded Wonder can't go, but i' hoping to go on a day trip with him later in the year :)
      I'll be honest, i don't know much yet, but a hoping to learn as i go haha

      Oh i'll probably take too many like last year, took about 2 hours to sift through the lol :D

    Your fences are looking good! And your future rose arbor too! I think we have different approaches to vegetable gardening, I've just stuck everything in and I'm hoping for the best!

    Your bread looks immense! I'm going to remember your double rise tip, I can't wait to start making my own bread once we have our kitchen sorted. Do you knock back the bread after the 2nd rise or just put in it the oven as it is?x

      Thank you Susie :) The rose arbor may be rough draft mind you, i'm terribly fickle and will more than likely take it apart and re do it haha
      I must admit, i do like to plan things out, but i more often than not ignore the plan and plonk things wherever they land lol

      And i don't knock the bread back, i just shape it and pop it in the tin,i like to leave as any air bubbles as possible which makes it super fluffy :) xx

Hear that? That's the sound of a hallelujah chorus playing in celebration  Yup.  You guessed right, a miracle has occurred, the paint has arrived! Six tins of painty fun! Though no wallpaper. And they forgot one of the roller tray sets. But never mind! Adding to the flock- Ex battery hens

Hello! How the time has flown! This Saturday saw us adding two new girls to the flock. Meet Felicity and Penelope. The poor little buggers were so frightened by this strange new world, with fresh air, room to move and dirt to scratch in, but they've soon got used to it and are coming out of their shells. Felicity is definitely the bolder of the two, and now she's figured everything out she likes to show poor little Penelope who's boss Felicity checking out the dust bath Barbara checking out the roost in the new indoor shelter (formerly a wendyhouse) Felicity stepping out into the sunshine. This afternoon saw me teaching the new girls how to peck at the broccoli i'd hung up for them. Fliss was unimpressed, she'd rather try and eat my engagement ring. The good news is that after a week they are all starting to settle in with each other, and now there is much less squabbling between them and the older girls,...

Garden stuff

Hi guys :) Thank your all your lovely comments about the Bearded Wonder, he is doing wonderfully and has even voluntarily made a new appointment at the doctors (will wonders ever cease?) With the lovely weather we have finally made it out into the garden, and got to work.  There is still so much to do to get it to where we want it but, progress is progress no matter how small :) The Bearded Wonder has dug out the path, and we are going to border it in an attempt at keeping the weeds and grass at bay, and put either gravel or pebbles in the gaps. I have cobbled together a frame, and am going to put down cardboard, newspaper and mulch to block down the weeds, and with any luck by next year it should be diggable, and shall be used for herbs and above ground growing plants such as salads and brassicas etc  We also got a lovely new bed from a friend, so our old Divan bed has had it's fabric sides ripped out and shall be pressed into service as raised bed...
